Justin Pierre James Trudeau PC MP (/truːdoʊ truːˈdoʊ TROO-doh troo-DOH French pronunciation: ​[ʒystɛ̃ pjɛʁ ʒak tʁydo] born December 25, 1971) is a Canadian politician who has served as the 23rd prime minister of Canada since 2015 and leader of the Liberal Party since 2013.

Political Career

He is the eldest son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and Margaret Trudeau (née Sinclair). Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Trudeau was educated at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean, and McGill University, where he earned a degree in education. Following graduation, he taught French, mathematics, and social studies at West Point Grey Academy in Vancouver.

Current Role

Trudeau entered politics in 2008, when he was elected to the House of Commons as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Papineau. He served as the Parliamentary Secretary to Bob Rae from 2011 to 2013.

In 2013, Trudeau was elected leader of the Liberal Party. In the 2015 federal election, the Liberals won the most seats in the House of Commons, ending the nine-year Conservative government of Stephen Harper. Trudeau was sworn in as Prime Minister on November 4, 2015.
